2017 Oscars

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2016, and took place on February 26, 2017.

Moonlight won three awards, including Best Picture, and La La Land won the most awards of the ceremony with six after receiving a record-tying 14 nominations. In an event unprecedented in the history of the Oscars, La La Land was incorrectly announced as the Best Picture; after a few minutes the error was corrected and Moonlight was declared the winner. Moonlight became the first film with an all-black cast and the first LGBT-themed film to win Best Picture.
