Curtis Sumter started his professional career performing in nightclubs on the “Chitlin Circuit” in Detroit performing with musicians almost three times his own age. He never allowed himself to become caught up in one style of music as he performed with various artists playing big band to rock and roll, from fusion to blues. He has always been high accolades and called The Metronome and The Master of Shuffle. He was inducted into the Michigan Blues Hall of Fame.
Curtis formed his own blues band in the early 90s called The Curtis Sumter Project. He moved from behind the drums to become the front man of the band. The Curtis Sumter Project is a hard hitting contemporary blues band with a soulful feel that has dominated the local Michigan blues scene for over 20 years.
There is a $5.00 general admission or a $3.00 admission for Friends of the Southfield Public Library members. No charge for children under 12.
